Bookie reaction to Cheltenham Cancellation

Bookmakers have reacted to today's Cheltenham cancellation

Stan James are the latest firm to clarify their position following the postponement of today's Cheltenham card. They issued the following statement with regard to bets placed on today's racing at Cheltenham.

"Wagers placed on Wednesday's Cheltenham card from the time the declarations were announced yesterday (Monday for the 48 hour Champion Chase) until the 08.30am abandonment this morning will stand. However a request for the cancellation of bets will be honoured prior to the start of the race. All ante-post bets will stand."

Totesport, who sponsor Friday's Cheltenham Gold Cup, have said in statement:

"All bets placed on the Cheltenham Festival up until the suspension of markets at 8.32am this morning will stand in accordance with totesport rules. All totepool bets relating to Wednesday's Cheltenham card will be void. Thursday and Friday's jackpots will run on the first six races on the card."

William Hill believe that the decision to run Wednesday's postponed Cheltenham races over the remaining two days of the Festival will lead to an absolute betting bonanza from punters.

"There is no doubt that compacting the business from Wednesday in to these two days will make them amongst the biggest betting days of all time," said Hill's Director of Racing David Hood.

"It's reasonable to think that around £500million will be wagered and with 10 races on Thursday and nine on Friday, the mantle of the Grand National as the world biggest betting day is under threat. All bets stand unless the entries are re-opened. Anyone who has placed an bet ante-post can rest assured that all their bets for Wednesday will be honoured on Thursday and Friday, as conditions stand.

Additionally, any customer that wishes to cancel any bets on today's racing that were placed after the five-day stage last Thursday can do so. Providing that they contact us by close of business today," added Hood.
