After punters bemoaned their luck on Tuesday, they came back punching well above their weight on Thursday when a string of well back favourites sent the layers looking for black armbands until a little respite came in the shape of 50/1 chance Mister McGoldrick.
Albertas Run, Master Minded and triple- World-hurdle winner Inglis Drever, caned the bookies hard and with punters friends Tony McCoy and Ruby Walsh in the saddle for the first two, turnover soared towards an all time Festival high.
“The biggest roar of the day was reserved for Inglis Drever, but with ten races, turnover was absolutely terrific” said Hills spokesman David Hood, “Unfortunately for us, the results went almost all the punters way, and there is no doubt that they’ll press-up on Friday, and onto Kauto Star and Denman which should generate upwards of £40-50million alone.
Hills predict that Friday’s turnover could well approach £250m, an all time record for the Festival and only a length or two behind the £300m generated on Grand National Day.
