Tony McCoy 3/1 to draw a blank at Festival

Matthew Glazier - 7 Mar 2008

Although Tony McCoy has been passed fit to ride at Cheltenham after getting the all-clear from BHA and Dr Michael Turner, Blue Square make the champion jockey 3/1 to ride no winners at the Festival next week.

McCoy was treated for a back injury and needed surgery after fracturing two vertebrae in a fall from Arnold Layne in the totesport Classic Chase at Warwick.

AP is 5/2 to ride just the one winner at Cheltenham, 3/1 to ride two winners and 16/1 to ride five or more winners.

The champion jockey is 11/2 to be the top pilot at the Festival, whilst he is 3/1 to ride more winners than favourite Ruby Walsh, who is 1/2 to ride more winners than McCoy with the tie at 4/1.

‘It’s great news that AP will be riding at Cheltenham as the Festival just wouldn’t feel right without him,’ said Blue Square spokesman George Primarolo.

‘However, he is coming back from a serious injury and it will be interesting to see if the punters follow him blind as they have done at previous Festivals’.
