Gold Cup hope Turpin out injured

James Cameron - 29 Feb 2008

Turpin Green, who finished third in the 2007 Cheltenham Gold Cup third, is injured and out of this year's Gold Cup at the Cheltenah Festival 2008

The nine-year-old, trained by Nicky Richards, has damaged a fetlock and will not run again this season.

"He's given his fetlock a bit of a twist; it's a pity as we were hoping to run him in the Gold Cup again. He won't run again this season." said Michael Meagher, racing manager

Despite his previous success, Turpin Green had not been expected to mount a serious challenge in the 2008 Gold Cup, having been priced at around 50/1 to win in the ante-post market. The market continues to be led by the Paul Nicholls-trained pair, Kauto Star (11/10) and Denman (13/8).
