William Hill have cut Paul Nicholls has been cut from 1-3 to 1-4 to train the winner of this season’s Cheltenham Gold Cup. The master of Dicteat is responsible for the top three horses in the betting for the blue riband of the Festival and looks almost certain to record his third consecutive win in the race.
The 2007 Gold Cup winner Kauto Star made an impressive seasonal debut at Down Royal on Saturday and as a result was cut from 7-2 to 5-2 to regain his Gold Cup crown. His stable mate and last year’s Gold Cup winner Denman remains the 5-4 favourite for the race, while another of his barn mate’s Neptune Collonges is the 9-1 third favourite in Hills list.
Hills have also shortened Paul Nicholls odds of winning the Irish National Hunt trainers title. Following his successes with Kauto Star and Noland at Down Royal - they now make the English Champion trainer a 7-4 chance to land the Irish equivalent.
William Hill Irish spokesman Tony Kenny commented “Irish trainers must be sick of the sight of Paul Nicholls” He continued “He’s got a phenomenal record over in Ireland and if he keeps sending over horses for the big events then he’ll probably go very close in the Irish trainers championship”
