Champion Hurdle 2009 - bet on the age of the Winner
James Cameron
- 13 Oct 2008
Stan James
have had unprecedented interest in their market on the age of the winner of next year's Champion Hurdle.
In light of Crack Away Jack's fluent Chepstow success (albeit in handicap company against his own age group) we went 10/11 for a five year old and 10/11 for any other age to win next year's Champion Hurdle but after a flurry of activity this morning we now bet:
8/11 Any age other than five
11/10 A five year old to land the prize
Head of PR Charlie McCann: "This market has obviously caught the imagination of the racing public and it would appear that the mathematicians have worked out that one five-year-old winner in 23 years does not work out at 10/11 each of two. We have tweaked the market in line with demand but firmly believe Binocular, Crack Away Jack, Pierrot Lunaire, Celestial Halo, Ashkazar and if it came up soft Franchoek are worthy contenders for the crown. It was a sub-standard renewal in our opinion last year but punters obviously feel otherwise."
