McCain gambles on Whiteoak

Chris Kisby - 5 Mar 2009

Donald McCain will take a gamble on Whiteoak in the Champion Hurdle it was revealed thursday evening. The six-year old mare, winner of the mares only David Nicholson Hurdle last year looked to be heading for a defence of that title. However after a superb second on her reappearance in the Kingwell Hurdle, McCain has decided to let her take her chance in the big one.

Commenting on Whiteoak, McCain said: ‘She showed in the Kingwell that she can travel at speed and jump at speed with the best two milers around’. The Whiteoak team clearly have faith in the mare, who would be only the third mare to win the Champion Hurdle after Dawn Run and Flakey Dove.

Whiteoak is best priced 25/1 with Ladbrokes and Victor Chandler for Tuesday’s showpiece event.
