Original Sizing Up Well

Chris Kisby - 6 Mar 2009

Giant French Raider Original, standing at a huge 18.3 hands high, is shaping up well for the Arkle Chase on Tuesday.

Original caused a massive shock over Christmas in the Wayward Lad chase at Kempton, bolting up as an unfancied 66/1 outsider. Trainer Jean-Rene Auvray believes that victory was no fluke however and that he is a major contender for the two-mile novice championship at the Festival.

‘For his size he is very athletic and quick on his feet’ said Auvray. ‘He has one very strong pace, and although he may feel the pinch down the hill in the Arkle, the race is won up the hill, not down it’ he added.

The fancied Original, who’s Dam incidentally is a sister of The Fellow, is still available a best priced 20/1 with Ladbrokes and Hills for the Arkle Chase.
