The only point of minor interest regarding the Champion Hurdle since last week is that Amaretto Rose did not run in the National Spirit Hurdle as they indicated they would earlier in the week which means she will head to the Festival without having had a proper race this season which has to be a negative. She has also been given a County Hurdle entry which suggests she is not in this class.
Just three Champion Hurdle winners in the last 25 years did not win last time out so the strong chances are that this season’s race will go the way of Sizing Europe, Osana, Katchit, Catch Me or Afsoun (though surely the latter is exposed as not being good enough). Catch Me wouldn't be the worst ante-post bet as he looked good over 2m and 2m2f either side of a desperate run at Thurles when returning clinically abnormal so maybe they got him wrong as a novice believing he was a stayer in the making and finishing third in the Ballymore Properties Novices’ Hurdle.
