Stan James originally began with a small group of betting shops in Berkshire. Founded by Steve Fisher in 1973 in Berkshire Stan James was named as a mix between his name and his wife's (Steve+Ann)
Stan James is privately held and only has 19 shops, which means the offline operation is very small, however, the firm turns over £10 million a week on internet and telephone betting.
Today the Internet business is based in Gibraltar and run by Peter Fisher, Steve's son.
